WHAT IS THE CHARLTON PARK VILLAGE FOUNDATION?

The Charlton Park Village Foundation is a ray of sunshine for Historic Charlton Park. The Foundation is a non-profit corporation organized for the exclusive purpose of providing the funds necessary to preserve and maintain the Park's village and collections.

The Foundation manages an ENDOWMENT FUND. Each contribution to the Charlton Park Village Foundation becomes part of a perpetual fund from which only the interest is used, this is an ongoing supply of money. Specific projects are developed by the Park director and money to carry projects out is requested from the Foundation. All requests must be approved by majority vote of the Foundation's Board of Directors.

PAST FOUNDATION PROJECTS

Over the past decade, the Foundation has provided the Park with $114,000 in funds for the preservation and maintenance of Historic Charlton Park's village and collection. Past projects have included:

  • Historic Village drainage installed
  • New roof and exterior and interior painting of the Bristol Inn
  • Carlton Center Church plaster repair and interior painting
  • Historic Village&stone restroom repairs
  • Hall House roof repairs
  • Restoration of the Barber Shop's chairs
  • New furnace in the Sixberry House
  • Upjohn Barn repairs and paint
  • Hastings City Bank clock repairs
  • New roofs for: the Town Hall, Lee School, Carpenter Shop, Blacksmith Shop, Sixberry House, Barber Shop, Museum, the three Mainstreet buildings, white restrooms and stone restrooms
  • New porches and steps for the Hastings Township Hall and the Hall House
  • Purchased Past Perfect collections management software

PLEASE HELP US FUND OUR FIVE YEAR PROJECTS:

  • Replace Historic Village boardwalks using handicap accessible design
  • Tuck point masonry on the Hastings Mutual Insurance Building
  • Construct a building for collections care
  • Rehabilitation of the Museum first floor as exhibit space
  • Demolish River House and maintenance shop area and replace it with a large picnic pavilion with river access
  • Install Victorian Era streetlamps throughout the Historic Village
  • New Fencing

    • THAT SENSE OF HISTORY

    Wills through a codicil, can make specific provision for a bequest to the Foundation. You may be interested in setting up a charitable lead trust, revocable living trusts, or a charitable remainder trusts are gifting options. Whatever form your gift takes, rest assured that only a percentage of the interest from the Foundation's invested funds is expended-the principal is never touched, and that your gracious gift has truly made a positive impact improving the quality of life here in Barry County.
